今日のTopicはWH-Questions

要約練習

Why good leaders makes you feel safe 4/6

Good leaders are like parents, and they want to provide their people opportunity, education, discipline when necessary and build their self-confidence because they hope that their people can grow up and achieve more than themselves.
And there is safety in those organizations to have a good leader, and spontaneously, trust and cooperation would grow up.
And if we have trust and cooperation, we can work very hard to achieve our leaders’ vision without compulsion.

Why you think you’re right— even if you’re wrong 4/9

The speaker argues that having good judgment is mostly about which mindset either the soldier or the scout you’re in.
The soldier mindset is called motivated reasoning, and our judgment unconsciously is unfair.
On the other hand, the scout mindset can cut through prejudices, biases, and motivations, and objectively they can try to see the facts and evidence.
She talks about a false accusation in 19th-century France, and finally, the scandal was cleared by a person who had the scout mindset, and he cut off his prejudice.
And characteristics of the scout mindset are being curious, being open, and being grounded. It’s not being smart or having a higher IQ.
The most important thing is emotions, how you feel.
The point is that if we want to improve our judgment, we need to change the way we feel.
We need to learn how to feel proud instead of ashamed when we notice we might have been wrong about something, and we need to learn how to feel intrigued instead of defensive when we encounter some information that contradicts our beliefs.
At last, she asked us what do you most yearn for.
Do you yearn to defend your own beliefs? or to see the world as clearly as you possibly can?
